story of a companion
The difficulty in perceiving art means that many, not just young people, do not feel the need to commune with her and be interested in her works. And it really surrounds us during our daily existence without asking for permission.
This assumption came from born in New Jersey in 1974. Brian Donnelly, better known under the artistic nickname KAWS. The nickname has no deeper meaning than the shape of the letters forming it, which the hero of the text used in his first works as a graffiti artist. Then, as a result of his studies at artistic schools, he developed his craft with animations that kept him alive and developed his graphic talent at night. Above all, however, he wanted his works to be universal, expressing emotions in a way understood by every person in the world.
Due to the creation of the first vinyl sculpture / toy Companion - created in 1999 at the request of the Japanese clothing brand Bounty Hunter, he drew the attention of young people to art while blurring the boundaries between artistry and commercialism. This collaboration allowed him to open to other projects and collaborations that determined the scale of his ever-growing popularity.
This recognition has become even greater over time due to the oversized sculptures made using various materials such as fiberglass, aluminum, wood or steel. The KAWS "companion" was hosted as a huge installation throughout the continent, the most known locations are Hong Kong and London.
The works of the artist creating in New York enjoy enormous recognition of stage creators such as Swizz Beatz or Pharrell Williams, they determine the decor of their homes but also ordinary mortals, although the problem in their purchase may be the price of masterpieces. Fortunately, to commune with the graphics characteristic for the creator, characterized by an emphasis on color and line, we do not have to go to galleries or museums, it is within our reach through projects such as clothing and toys of the famous Japanese Uniqlo chain store or other types of projects created even for brands like Vans, Supreme or Burton.
The scope of his activity is much more extensive, we encourage you to search her on the artist's profiles in social media and also in our collections, because we can come across work to KAWS quite unexpectedly, as was the case with the album cover presented below.
